-CANE FOR THE BLIND-
Pathfinder is a cane for the Blind with GPS navigation system, obstacles warning, voice command, haptic feedback.
This new cane can help blind people to find directions and to avoid obstacles by simple existing technologies never used on cane sticks.
The stick will be connected via Bluetooth to a mobile device and to a headset assistant. It will have a small camera at the tip and a reacting pad on the handle. The pad will give users a haptic feedback generated by the camera and GPS system, suggesting the user how to react.
This non-profit project is dedicated to support the basic needs and to improve the life of visually impaired. The project is an outcome of a group of students from Personal technologies course in Spring 2009. SDWorks works together with colleagues from SD to further develop and realize the initial concept.
Besides the people with visual impairment, we believe the project can be expanded to meet the needs of disabled or elderly people who can potentially be future beneficiaries.
